Prof. dr. ir. Marjan De Mey
Group leader (PI)
Marjan De Mey is a bio-engineer cell and gene biotechnology from training. She obtained her Ph.D. in Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University in 2007. She was visiting researcher at TU Delft (The Netherlands) in the group of Sef Heijnen in 2007 and at M.I.T. (USA) in the group of Greg Stephanopoulos in 2010-2011. Since 2011 she holds a position as professor (BOF ZAP) in Metabolic Engineering at the faculty Bioscience Engineering of Ghent University where she leads the Metabolic Engineering (MEMO) group. She was affiliated researcher at the Laboratory of Metabolic Engineering and Bioinformatics at M.I.T. (USA) from 2012-2016. Between 2013-2014 she held the position of Vice-President Metabolic Engineering and Fermentation at the M.I.T. start-up company Manus Bio. In 2014 she became director of the Centre of Synthetic Biology (CSB) at Ghent University. Since 2016, she is program director of the MSc Bio-engineer Cell and Gene Biotechnology at Ghent University and teaches Genetic Engineering & Molecular Diagnostics, Metabolic Engineering of Microorganisms and Synthetic Biology.Current MEMO members
